Westboro Village has been one of Ottawa’s finest hotspots for many years. Its trendy restaurants, theatre, and nightlife attract young professionals from all over.

If you love the excitement of crowds and want to be close to the action, then Westboro Village could be the right neighbourhood for you. However, if you’re the type of person who wants a break from the crowds, you might want to consider somewhere a little more serene.

Is there an alternative?

Why Not Consider Manotick?

Manotick is one of the National Capital Region’s oldest communities and is becoming a highly sought-after place to live.

Life in Manotick is quiet and peaceful, with scenic beauty that is almost dreamlike. However, do not mistake peacefulness for boring, because there is no lack of things to do.

Though the hustle and bustle of Westboro is only a 20-minute drive away, you won’t need to go that far for the conveniences of city life. Manotick’s downtown core is lively and charming, lined with specialty cafes, museums, gift shops and boutiques.

Here is a shortlist of amenities found within an easy drive:

Restaurants:

692 Coffee and Bar
The story behind the 692 Coffee and Bar is almost as enticing as its food. Four young entrepreneurs unite in their dream, transforming a 100+-year-old building into a five-star rated cafe. It’s not just for coffee. The cozy atmosphere and delicious, freshly made breakfast and lunch menus draw visitors from all over. Fully licensed, you can even relax with a beer or wine at the bar.

Mimi’s Dairy Barn and Cafe
Donut lovers, beware! Once you taste one of Mimi’s signature delights, you might be hooked. This “bakery in a barn” is such a popular destination that you may have to order ahead of time to get your sweet fix. Although you’ll have a tough decision to make: sweet, gooey donut or rich, creamy ice cream? The solution may be to visit often!

Khao Yum Thai Restaurant
If you crave some authentic Thai food, you’re in luck. Khao Yum Thai Restaurant is at your service, ready to accommodate whether you’re looking for something mild, medium spicy, or hot, hot, hot. They are particularly well known for their fantastic chicken dishes.

Take Another Bite
If you’re looking for delicious but healthy food, Take Another Bite is the answer. They offer a vast selection of fresh and flash frozen meals when you’re too busy to cook. Vegetarian, chicken, beef, and seafood are always on the menu, as well as a variety of fresh-baked desserts.

Black Dog Bistro
Whatever taste you crave, you’ll find it in Manotick, and the Black Dog Bistro has one of the most varied menus around. Everything from veggie burgers and roast chicken to bouillabaisse and escargot is at your request. It may be difficult, but try to save room for dessert, because the Black Dog Bistro is famous for them.

Shopping:

Downtown Manotick has the convenience of shopping malls, convenience stores, and pharmacies. You’ll also find many one-of-a-kind boutique shops.

Lasting Impressions Gifts:
If you visit this unique gift shop a hundred times, it will never be the same twice. You’ll find everything you need when looking for a special gift or keepsake. Colourful socks, quirky (but useful) kitchen gadgets, portable campfires, flavoured hot chocolate, and fashion jewellery are just a few of the precious finds at Lasting Gift Impressions.

Rebel Petal
You can find breathtaking decor items, flowers, plants and gift ideas at Rebel Petal. You’ll see this one-of-a-kind boutique spotlighted in magazines like Wedding Bells. They’ve even been featured on CTV Morning Live!

Mansfield’s Shoes
Local influencers love Mansfield’s Shoes for their variety and style. They’re not the only ones. People come from all over Ottawa to shop here. You’ll find everything you’re looking for; high-heeled dress shoes, warm winter boots, casual sneakers, and even sherpa-lined slippers for lounging at home.

Miller’s Farm and Market
Open all year; you can always find healthy fresh produce and handmade preserves at Miller’s Farm and Market. The garden center opens in Spring and offers hundreds of annuals and perennials to choose from. In October, the Fall fun begins with wagon rides, corn mazes and “pick your own” pumpkins.

If you’re not the shopping type, Manotick still has plenty to offer to keep you busy.

An Outdoor Lover’s Paradise

The Rideau River flows through the town, and it’s a popular spot for fishing, boating and swimming.

Natural green space is everywhere, along with hiking trails and beautiful picnic areas.

If you love the great outdoors, you’ll be in your element with Manotick’s world-famous 56 km cycling loop. It’s not just for bicycles, however. You’ll find hikers, joggers and other outdoor lovers at every turn. In the winter, it’s time to grab your skis or put your snowshoes on and enjoy a snow-filled wonderland.

What will your furry friends think of Manotick? Tails will wag at David Barlett Park, a 35-acre designated leash-free playground for pups. Your dog can run, fetch and even swim in the Rideau River that runs through the city.

Speaking of swimming, you’ll want to check out Mahogany Harbour. Located right on the Rideau River, there’s a brand new dock available for residents to secure their kayaks and canoes. It’s also a favourite spot for splashing into the water, and pool floats and noodles are a common summer sight.

Manotick is also close to several of Ottawa’s best beaches. Britannia Beach, Mooney’s Bay, Crystal Beach and Baxter’s Conservation Area are all within a 30-minute drive.

This is only a taste of the outdoor fun Manotick has to offer. Look here for more ideas.

Manotick’s Rich History

History buffs will love Manotick and its commitment to preserving its rich legacy. As soon as you drive in, you’ll see Watson’s Mill nestled right on the Rideau River. Constructed in 1860, this mill continues to grind flour to this day. It also doubles as a museum so visitors can see Manotick’s past come to life. The beauty and intrigue make it a popular wedding destination. Watch out for ghosts, though, as there are rumours that the mill is haunted!

As you wander back in time, don’t forget to visit the Dickinson House. Manotick’s famous home is fascinating any time of year, but it is especially beautiful during the holiday season.

Who is Manotick For?

Manotick is the ideal location for trendy young professionals, families with young children, retirees who wish to remain active or anyone seeking an upscale, small community. Here, you have the joy of living in the country combined with the convenience of the city.
