This quaint rural community about 25 kilometres south of downtown Ottawa is located right along the Rideau River, and has a plethora of natural attractions that keep us entertained, especially in warmer weather. Visit Watson’s Mill

Unsurprisingly, the first destination on our list is Manotick’s most iconic landmark, Watson’s Mill. This widely-recognized symbol of Manotick, originally built in 1860, was and still is a fully-operating industrial level grist mill, and is one of the last still functioning across North America.

In fact, visitors can still purchase stone-ground flours made on-site from this historical landmark of Manotick to complete their experience. Visiting Watson’s Mill is one of the most popular things to do in Manotick, especially once the mill opens its doors for tours – when it is safe to return to indoor tours.

However, you don’t necessarily need to go inside to enjoy this landmark spot. You can pay a visit to appreciate the picturesque exterior and surrounding area of the mill — including Watson’s Mill Dam — any time of year.

Get Some Golf In

With an abundance of wide-open green spaces and an active, outdoor-oriented population, it’s safe to say there’s a large collection of avid golfers in Manotick. Although there are many golf clubs and courses nearby, the two within two Manotick’s boundaries include the Carleton Golf & Yacht Club and the Rideau View Golf Club.

While both private, you can either trial, tour, or play as a guest at both of these two beautifully-manicured golf courses this spring should you not already be a member. However you get there, enjoying the tranquil atmosphere of a day out on the green is one of the most enjoyable things to do in Manotick, when the weather permits.

Go Picking at Miller’s Farm

Miller’s Farm and Market is a celebrated Manotick attraction, offering a wide variety of fun seasonal events and activities throughout the year.

In spring, Miller’s Farm is one of the best places to go and pick some of Manotick’s most delicious, in-season produce. In May, visit Miller’s Farm to pick fresh Asparagus and Rhubarb, and then come back in June for fresh Garlic Scapes and Strawberries.

Whichever month or season you visit this family-friendly farm, reconnecting with nature by spending a day at Miller’s Farm will always be one of our favourite things to do in Manotick.

Go Fishing on the Rideau River

Situated directly along a scenic stretch of the 100 kilometre-long Rideau River, the community of Manotick has long been drawn to the river’s breathtaking natural beauty. And one of the best ways to enjoy the river is to get out onto it!

While kayaking, canoeing, boating, and other water-focused activities are commonly practiced here, one of the most popular things to do in Manotick is fish on the Rideau. As different fishing seasons overlap throughout the year, those who enjoy time spent out on the river can enjoy fishing year-round.

Fishers are permitted to catch Walleye Pickerel, Northern Pike, and Lake Trout in spring, according to their specific seasonal dates, while Perch, Crappie, Sunfish, Whitefish, Catfish can be caught any time of year.

If you do plan on venturing out onto the river, make sure you’re fully equipped with an Ontario fishing license before you drop anchor.
