Rooted in Manotick: A Spotlight on Manotick Farm Flowers
If you’ve strolled down Manotick Main Street recently, you may have noticed something fresh taking root. Stepping into the cherished space once home to Rebel Petal, Sarah of Manotick Farm Flowers is beginning a beautiful new chapter—one grounded in sustainability, locally grown blooms, and heartfelt design.
A New Take on a Beloved Space
Taking over a space as well-loved as Rebel Petal comes with a deep appreciation for what came before. Michelle of Rebel Petal built a loyal, supportive community and they’ve met Sarah with encouragement. She’s committed to maintaining the quality and care that long-time customers are used to, while introducing her own flair.
The shop itself will be open one day a week, on Wednesdays, for a walk-ins. The rest of the week will operate through pre-orders, delivery, and scheduled pickups, offering flexibility while keeping the process thoughtful and streamlined.
Sarah envisions it as a place to create community—whether through seasonal workshops, creative gatherings and small events.
A Different Path to Floristry
Sarah’s path to floristry wasn’t traditional. A nurse by training, she worked on the COVID unit at the Civic Hospital during the height of the pandemic. She took a step back and spent the summer working at Miller’s Farm—something she had done growing up—and it gave her the space to reset. That’s when she had the idea to start growing flowers.
What began as a side project turned into something more. She started sharing her work on social media, and soon people were reaching out, asking to buy her blooms. The response was unexpected—but meaningful. For Sarah, the process was healing, and it clearly resonated with others too. The community grew naturally from there.
Deep Local Roots
Sarah’s connection to Manotick runs deep. She’s lived her entire life within five minutes of Manotick Main Street and has contributed to familiar spots across the village—from volunteering at Rideau View Golf Club to working at Angelina’s. Owning a flower shop here isn’t just a career move—it’s a dream she’s held onto since childhood.
It’s a full-circle moment, and one she doesn’t take for granted. While she’s worked hard to build this business, she’s quick to express how grateful she is—for the advice, encouragement, and support she’s received from friends, neighbours, and fellow business owners.
Grown Close to Home
From May through October, many of the flowers at Manotick Farm Flowers are grown right on Sarah’s farm property in the village. She also supports other local flower growers, creating a seasonal supply chain that’s rooted in community and care for the land.
For Sarah, keeping flowers local isn’t just about freshness, it’s about the larger impact. Locally grown flowers support soil health, feed pollinators, and reduce the carbon footprint of the floral industry by cutting down on shipping. They also offer something special: varieties that commercial growers don’t offer!
